Like so many financial websites, Minyanville started well but has gotten progressively worse over the years. When Scott Reamer and Bennett Sedacca were writing for the site, it would open your eyes the way few other sites could or would. Sadly, both are gone (Bennett passed away; Scott, I believe, is/was tending to an ill child).
They claim to have nearly two hundred people writing for the site. The vast majority write once a month, if that. Many haven't written anything since 2010. To fill the void left by the absence of their strongest writers, they turned to quantity, not quality. Not everyone who has an opinion deserves a soapbox.
I figured the Buzz & Banter would feature more active participation than the website. It doesn't. It's the same people every day rehasing the same old stuff. I was truly disappointed.
Todd Harrison, sadly, sounds like a broken record. To this outside observer, it seems like he's trying to fill the void left by the writers that have gone MIA. He just doesn't have enough new material to justify writing as often as he does.
If you're an active trader and like looking at charts, you might find some value here. Conspicuously absent is substantive fundamental analysis. When it does make of of its rare appearances, Ryan Kreuger is, in my opinion, the best Minyanville has to offer.
If you focus on fundamentals and/or the macro picture, you will get everything you need by hanging around for a week. Anything more than that and you'll start to realize you've heard it all before.
Finally, the attempts at humor and entertainment detract from what's decent about the site. They could get rid of all of it without making the site suffer.
