I have been an avid reader of the NY Times for most of my adult life. I have found that the paper seemed to attract some of the highest caliber and most qualified reporters in the industry. In retrospect, I see that has been changing for some years, but as a creature of habit I was blinded my dedication towards tradition. After the political coverage in the past year however, I was forced to cancel my subscription. Very sad. Even when I was a student struggling to work and earn a 4.0 GPA, I still scraped together the money to subscribe and the time to read this paper that was more of an institution in my eyes. Regardless of one's political affiliations, the coverage (not the opinion columns) that was meant to be actual news, was nothing short of insulting. I am actually disgusted with myself that it took me so long to cancel. I believe that in spite of modern communication as it is, the 'paper' is something that is still very important and should be celebrated. In it's arrogance, the NY Times has not only destroyed their own reputation, but as a leader in the field, made it that much more difficult for any newspaper to survive.
