Good for beginners and people that desire to be in a group
They take a value approach to investing, and do a decent job at recommendations. You can join a local club, too. That said, it didn't take me long to grow out of this one. I'm not a group scene person, and the local club was more of a click suffering from a bad case of group think. They must have a lot of marketing money, too, as they nag the crap out of you afterwards with junk mail and calls.

Worth It
I have been a member for 6 years. Very good and honest org. The monthly magazine is invaluable. They teach us about different ways to look at to buy stocks.

There are monthly meetings with great guest speakers in most large cities

Worth subscribing to.

Worth Joining -- Educational/Practical Info, Real Portfolios
This is a grass-roots educator on investment principles, more or less coming from a traditional value approach from the free content. The free content is decent, but the really, really good stuff comes from membership (and yes, I'm a lifetime member). The newsletters and magazines are very well done (they've just recently had a facelift, they used to be very dated) and worth putting next to the potty...

For the quant investor, the AAII stockscreener (called SI Professional) is without question the best screener on the market today (note: pretty big learning curve w/ the software).

The stockscreen website portion corrals all the great screens from big time investors (O'Shaunessy, O'Neil, Buffet, plus all the new ones, they probably have over 50 different screens) is extremely useful in both education and real-world investment ideas. This is what drew me to the website in the first place, then I joined & got the screener.

The site also offers model portfolios (one based on small-cap stocks, one based on ETFs, & one based on Mutual Funds), and these all have handily beaten the market with detailed explanations on how to do the analysis yourself.

Their goal is to help others become individual investors, and I think they accomplish this very well. Again, although tailored towards the newbie, the experienced investor will get an idea or two from this site & all the tools it has to offer.
