I use NinjaTrader as my sole trading platform. I think it's intimidating for many people at first - it certainly was for me. I highly recommend attending one of their webinars or watching some of their videos.
You don't need to pay anything to use the NinjaTrader software as long as you're not trading with real money. As soon as you want to trade with real money, you have to buy a license from NinjaTrader. You also have to set up an account with a broker.
I wish the live data situation was made clear. After installing NinjaTrader, I assumed the simulated data feed was a built-in live data feed for the markets I wanted to trade. Wrong. I found out later that it's a sort of random number generator. To get live data, you have to apply for it on their website. They sent you a data feed that is good for two weeks. I am not sure how many times you can request a new data feed. It would be great if there wasn't a limit, because two weeks is not really enough time to evaluate a platform. If you have an existing account with a broker, you may be able to connect to it within Ninja. Also, Ninja has free end of day data, but I find it useless because I want to trade based on what I see live in front of me.
Overall, the platform has been fairly stable. I like how everything is in its own window. There are a ton of indicators included by default, if that's your thing. You can also import your own.
I like how the Market Replay works. I can play back market data for practice.
I had a couple questions and they were answered quickly via email. It would be better if they provided a phone number on their site.
I see no reason to switch to a different platform. It's Ninja for me!
