A Haunting Dose of Reality
Having seen Spike Lee's "25th Hour", I must say I was pleased. Lee's plot is both involving and heartfelt, showing the essence of reality. His script is fresh, yet somewhat slow in spots. His characters shine, however, in a truly believeable tale of consequence. Edward Norton, in another masterful performance, shows an almost frightening level of genuine human emotion as the protagonist Montgomery Brogan. The supporting cast consisting of Philip Seymour Hoffman, Barry Pepper, and veteran Brian Cox provide a solid foundation that allows Lee's story to flow freely. While most would consider this tale a literal one, take note: It is quite apparent, through subtlety and the rather obvious "restroom mirror scene" that Spike Lee has a message he wants to get across. What I think makes "25th Hour" so appealing on a theoretical level is the fact that his message is surprisingly open-ended; allowing the individual viewer to decide what he or she wants to retain from the film. This is a genuine film experience; a haunting dose of reality.

Edward Norton is the man
This movie is really great! Edward Norton plays a drug dealer, who after being busted, is spending his last 25 hours of freedom with his loved ones. In these 25 hours, he reevaluates his relationships, his actions and his career choices and tries to figure out the easiest way to say goodbye. Though pretty slow in parts, this movie is definitely worth your time. It will really surprise you by the complexity of the characters, the depth of the plot and the beauty of new york city.

Make Some Time For The 25th Hour
Another entertaining Spike Lee Joint.

Edward Norton delivers as an upscale New York City drug dealer who has been recently convicted and going away for some time. Its his final day of freedom, how he spends it and with who. All kinds of thoughts are racing through his head, as they would for anyone in his situation. He's looking for some closure, advice and saying goodbye all at the same time.

I have it down as a must watch.

Spike Lee and Norton - Winning!
This movie is very well written. It is an in depth character study that takes a look at what some people do under pressure. It is honest, and even though what the characters do is sometimes immortal, they are honest, and the consequences are real. The dialogue is authentic. GREAT movie, thanks to the script, and the actors.

Strong, Powerful, Lacking
Whoa, room got a little steamy there at the end.

I think everyone's made valid points; I just have to mix the good with the bad.

The movie definitely made an impact. It flowed well and carried an interesting story. My chest was caved in through nearly the entire movie. Not many movies lead to an ending in the way this one does. However, it seemed like it presented situations that were never fully carried out. I feel the need to bite my tongue as there's always someone smarter, more clever, or with a better understanding right around the corner, but the movie seemed to introduce characters to fill gaps, and there were story lines that you think are relevant or will be referenced later but never are. It's like when you have a great idea for a character or scene, but don't perfectly find a place for it.

As someone else mentioned, there's a great inner-dialog sort of moment in the first half. Again, interesting, but I'm not sure it completely fit no matter how much I loved it. Was this problem later resolved, or was it resolved then and there? There's a couple of parts in the movie where Ed Norton humanizes his character, the beginning being a wonderful example. Is that what this inner dialog was meant to do? I'm not sure. It doesn't seem to be approached in the same way as the other examples, one of which was near the end with the kid on the bus. It's a beautiful moment.

I once again face the conundrum of wishing there were half stars. Three equals "It was okay." I wish this read "It was okay!" That's a little more upbeat.

I would recommend this movie if only for its sheer impact and seeing Edward Norton being awesome, as well as reviews or comments that could set me straight. I've only seen this movie once and generally don't believe that I'm one to talk about what the director had in mind or what meant what, so I like hearing other people's thoughts. Mine are usually just ramblings as you know if you've read this far.

Amazing Film
Ed Norton goes on a rant in the middle of the film with some of the best quotes you'll see in any film.

Berry Pepper gives an amazing performance as a cowboy wall street player with an interesting view.

Brian Cox keeps up his game too with an outstanding portrayal of Norton's father.

Must SEE!

You will have to watch it 3x to capture all of the flavor

disappointment
with big name actors and a cool commercial you would think that this movie was some classic. Nah. It was boring uneventful and anticlimatic.

Suberb, only because a trader is in it
This movie moved me. Life can kind of smack you around a bit... makes you put things in perspective.

Storyline was done well. All actors were convincing as hell.

Just got to love that trading scene..

Very sad film
This films was incredibly overextended for me and with open ending it somewhat left sad emotion on me. A guy goes to seven years in prison, and on his last day at liberty remembers the past, saying goodbye to friends, family and beloved dog. In this film you will see a slice of life of petty drug dealer Monty Brogan and how he was caught. And the saddest part of the film is that life does not leave him a chance to change anything he did in the past. When you understand that you were wrong and you can do nothing to change that, it is doubly painful ...
