Im the fool
I should have known by the name... this was my first stock newsletter and let's just say I learned my lesson on this one.

Very basic information that might have worked 15 years ago, but isnt relevant in today's markets.

Bad investment like most other Motley Fool products
The problem with Motley Fool is that they compare all of their returns to the S&P 500 index. So if the index is down one year and their newsletter picks are down but not down as much as the index they highlight that as a positive which is misleading. Why not advertise with real returns not versus an index? Anyways Hidden Gems is a waste of money. They recommend a buy and hold strategy which can absolutely wipe you out in this market environment especially with small caps. Stay away and find other newsletters that have proven traders/investors behind them.

Motley waste of time
If you like wasting money, just send me $200 via paypal and I'll give you a better ROI than the crap they recommend.

Once upon a time these guys were good, but I highly recommend not using them. You'd get better returns with a mutual fund in small caps or a blend of small caps and S&P 500 picks. You can do just as good research without these guys.

Just to prove how bad these guys are...I picked 5 random small cap companies and 5 of their recommendations. Motley fool lost all my money and my random small cap companies made a modest 3-6%.

My small-cap mutual fund has performed about 6-8%.

Too bad Motley Fool is just Motley crap and I highly recommend avoiding their services at all costs.

Not worth the money
This newsletter is priced far too high for the value it provides. It is a good read for new investors but for the price it isnt. Dont waste the money on it. If it was 1/4 of the price I would recommend it.

There are many other informative newsletters and websites available for a margin of the price or free- so dont bother throwing your money away on this one.

Dumb and Dumber
Motley Fool actually had 2 hidden gems newsletters, one called Hidden Gems (dumb) and another called Hidden Gems Pay Dirt (dumber), both grossly underperformed the markets, but the HG Paydirt actually went under and was swept under the rug as if it never existed following the numbing losses of 2007-2008. MF got too involved in their marketing and hype and forgot about how to pick winning stocks for their clients.

Less than Stellar
As Cramer's soundbite would say: 'Don't Buy, Don't Buy', I have to think that the MF team isn't doing their homework based on their performance... There is also another lousy letter called Motley Fool Hidden Gems Paydirt that was even worse and lost investors a fortune. MF mercifully ended that newsletter and conveniently removed it from all performance calculations for their family of newslettters. I do feel MF has too many newsletters and are sacrificing quality for the sake of quantity. Their initial Stock Advisor letter was pretty good a long time ago, but not anymore.

They are becoming spammers IMO
I used to have a lot of respect for these guys, but now, they are down right annoying. They pay big bucks, I am sure to get their little teaser articles on Yahoo Finance disguised as possible valuable insight. Of course, whenever a stock has a run, there's TMF posting an article, whereby the stocks listed there usually have already run up. This was my experience with the Hidden Gems - they aren't so hidden. Sure, once in while they score big, they are a contra-indicator in my book. Funny how you don't see them bragging about their returns these days.

not worth the money
Picks pop up as soon as they are announced.. more often than not, you are guaranteed to 'miss the boat'. In addition, even if you didn't.. risk management is not at play here.. people blindly invest into these 'hidden gems' thinking they are safe plays. Many got burned, I would not recommend this newsletter.
