Forums > Trading over 3G cellular network

Does anyone trade on a full-time or consistent basis using a cellular 3G wireless connection?  My cable provider's quality of internet connection has been diminishing rapidly and they are getting ready to increase the price.  It's been constantly dropping, sometimes for 15 mins at a time.  I'm considering moving to AT&T 3G for my home internet connection.  How is the latency on this type of connection?  My dad has satellite service and the latency on it is just too high for me.  DSL is not an option.

Thoughts are feedback are appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Before switching to Verizon Wireless, I was using AT&T.  Unfortunately for me, the AT&T network is terrible throughout the Chicago-land area.  When I switched to Verizon Wireless, my network has always been static everywhere.  Trading via my mobile phone on Verizon Wireless has always been reliable for me and trades have often been executed quickly.  One thing that I do to ensure this is that I use the mobile version of my broker ( TDAMeritrade) and even sometimes use their mobile app.  By doing this, the data transfer is more optimized compared to using a normal broswer on my phone.  Since you live in the PA area, I recommend checking out the reviews at dslreports.com to learn what other people in your area think about AT&T.  Anyways, I am blabbing a little bit here but hopefully you found some value to this.

Yeah, I used Cricket and their USB wifi card. Worked great for me and I was streaming live level2's from through a prop firm's software + Etrade Pro. Never had anything 'bad' happen due to latency or anything.

And if anyone isn't familiar with Cricket, they don't even HAVE a reputation of having good signal, good features or good anything. But the fact is - I only needed to be in 1 of 2 places ever when I was trading - so if Cricket had signal in those two places that was great, which it did, so it was great.

Also there is no 2-yr contract or cancellation fee with cricket. So it may be ideal especially if you are on the fence.
