There Will Be Blood

www.amazon.com/s/?ur..
Category: Entertainment
The film follows the rise to power of Daniel Plainview - a charismatic and ruthless oil prospector, driven to succeed by his intense hatred of others and psychological need to see any and all competitors fail. When he learns of oil-rich land in California that can be bought cheaply, he moves his operation there and begins manipulating and exploiting the local landowners into selling him their property. Using his young adopted son H.W. to project the image of a caring family man, Plainview gains the cooperation of almost all the locals with lofty promises to build schools and cultivate the land to make their community flourish. Over time, Plainview's gradual accumulation of wealth and power causes his true self to surface, and he begins to slowly alienate himself from everyone in his life.

Revitalizing, masterful, and utterly terrifying
What is evil? What is hate? How low can an individual go with one's actions and still be considered human....? These, quite possibly, are the biggest questions raised in There Will Be Blood.

Paul Thomas Anderson and Daniel Day-Lewis, the tycoons at the helm of this dig for moral oil, tell a story that takes the archetypal anti-heroes of 'Citizen Kane' and Travis Bickle of 'Taxi Driver' to a whole new, 21st-century level. The film, using Lewis's character Daniel Plainview, walks through incredibly dangerous cinematic territory that questions religion, plays with the nature of greed and hate and evil, and with it all, draws terrifying parallels to the world we live in today. The film and its main character claw so deep through the limits of humanity and the landscape of hell, that you'll be thanking the Good Lord for the silver screen that divides you from this horrible world Paul Thomas Anderson has portrayed. But despite how safe you may seem in your cushy seat, you will undoubtedly walk out of the theater with all kinds of new demons and ghosts buzzing in your head and ripping away at your subconscious. In this way, Anderson has abandoned his primary previous influence of Robert Altman to take more of a Stanley Kubrick direction, creating moral allegories that creep into your psyche and don't ever leave. You should be scared. Very Scared.

Daniel Day-Lewis is awesome!
Daniel Day-Lewis is awesome. However, the move did not deliver to get a five star rating. Nevertheless, solid 4 stars.

Warning: if you are into true hollywood bang bang/ bling bling type of movies - run away from this one. This one is long and will make you think, feel pain and dig deeper into your soul.

Daniel Day Lewis comes to play and leaves no survivors
Daniel Plainview is a role model for the entrepreneur. He was cutthroat and rose to a position of power with gusto. This movie is simply amazing.

Boring but truthful!
This film tends to drag on but Daniel Day Lewis commands attention of the viewer when he is on. I imagine oil tycoons as the one Lewis portrays where as nasty as the one in this film. In that time, when it came to a man and his conquest there was nothing to stop him except brute force. The struggle in Lewis character is clearly between good and evil. Good being his son and evil being oil. Recommend if you're a Daniel Day Lewis fan.

Like watching wet paint dry
This will go down as one of the most over-rated movies of all time. I can't believe that I sat through the whole thing. I kept telling myself that surely something was about to happen. It still hasn't! Have you ever watched paint dry? Well, neither have I, and now I don't have to because I have seen something worse. I like Daniel Day Lewis, and he has done some great movies, which is why I wanted to see this. They could have told this story in about 30 minutes, but instead took almost 3 hrs.

Stay away from this movie...

One of my top movies
One of my top movies. This movie shows you what characters of a man should be to survive in the world of money - be a smart, prudent, purposeful and fearless. Only such people achieve the heights of maney-makers, not just money, but huge money. The main character of this movie is Daniel - a man who makes money, for whom there is no human laws, ethics and morality. He is ready to deceive, humiliate and kill others. In one word award wining film. Must watch for everyone.

Take it Down from the Pedestal
The movie really doesn't have any direction as it follows oilman, Daniel Plainview, in his quest to build up an empire no matter how many people he has to stomp on to

get it. This is one of those movies that critics love because of its artistry. But "artistry" is just code for boring and directionless. The movie is painfully slow and doesn't build up to anything. Oh, I'm sorry, it builds up to a silly argument and fight in a bowling alley. Yeah, that is just so avant guard!

While critics applaud it saying that the movie is basically a series of vignette that you have to appreciate independently, I'm going to call it what it is -- poor editing. There's no reason the movie runs 2.5 hours long especially given the shallowness of the character development of everyone except the main character.

So go ahead and say you loved the movie so that you'll fit in with your sophisticated friends. Your secret that you would have rather watched "Commando" is safe with me.
