Floored

A world that's more riot than profession, the trading floors of Chicago are a place where gambling your family's mortgage is all in a day's. At a time when markets are unhinged, FLOORED offers a unique window to this lesser-known world of finance. These men may not have degrees, but they've got guts, and penchant for excess that solicits simultaneous feelings of revulsion- and a desire to root them on. But like many aspects of our economy, technology is changing the way these traders do business, and these eccentric pit denizens aren't the type to take kindly to new tricks. Computerized trading may take the emotion out of the job, but it may also take some of these old-timers out- dinosaurs in a young man's game.

Highly entertaining, tell-all documentary.
This one hour, twenty minute documentary feels more like thirty minutes when you're finished watching it. It's fast-paced and electrifying and explores the inside and highly competitive world of floor trading on the Chicago stock exchange.

Get inside the mindset of the typical floor trader and experience the eclectic and eccentric lifestyles of these brash traders. You'll get an inside scoop at these traders lives including personal testimonies about sex, drugs, money, and their hardships on coping with a dying business.

Regardless of your profession, Floored: Into The Pit is a tell-all documentary that you won't want to miss.

gone with the floor traders
This is an amazing movie. Its a pity to see the floor traders just get destroyed by the computers. its super unfortunate, but I guess the evolution is inevitable. Oh well. I'm glad the HFTs are officially screwin the markets now.

Always have enjoyed this film. This just goes to show you the full spectrum of how life can run away without you in this trading biz on the good and bad sides.

Great insight into the changing nature of trading.
Good film about trading in general. It shows you that the age old trading adage of cutting losses is all that truly matters. Was interesting and inspirational to hear Linda Raschke talk about trading and that most people forget it is a serious business and should be treated as such. Anyone with an interest in trading should watch this.

Shows the worst the floor had to offer
I was a floor trader at the CBOT in the mid 90's. Jokingly we used to say people came to the floor that couldn't fit into society anywhere else. This film manages to find the worst personalities to represent floor traders.

A must see
A must see. Floored is relevant for everyone, not just those in the world of finance. Fantastic collection of topic and characters centered around a fast pace and self destructing culture. Floored is an interesting character piece with an antagonist that is lurking at every job in every position in the world. Raw, insightful and compelling dialogue that brings you into the closed world of futures trading in Chicago. Great stories. The director does a great job of introducing the possible "horrors" or reasons, but in the end the audience must make up their own mind. A true documentary and an enjoyable roller coaster ride of emotions.

Those that can't adapt will perish.
I liked this short film overall. Definitely a good in depth look at life as a floor trader in Chicago, and how computers were making the job obsolete.

You sort of start to feel sorry for the guys that are slowly realizing the advantage they had on the floor has been taken away from them by something else, and then you realize that's how the game has always been. You adapt, or you don't.

I didn't buy the movie, but it can be found streaming on Netflix every once in a while.

Loved it
I bought this DVD after the much hyped up release and wrote to James Allen Smith afterwards saying "...you have done an awesome job! I thoroughly enjoyed watching Floored. You portrayed the “All or Nothing” lifestyle and the negative side effects thereof extremely well. I look forward to more of your work."

The makers try to portray the risks the pit traders take to make huge returns. People routinely lose everything, grown men cry, marriages fail, alcoholism and drugs prevail. Times are changing and once great pit traders are now aging and are battling to make the transition to screen trading - some even think it is a conspiracy.

It will be sad to see this primitive form of trading dwindle away. It gets my adrenalin going! Wow. I will be in Chicago early next year and man how I would love to witness this lot.
