Loved it

I really do think that trading is all about psychology and this book does teach you a lot. The book is very practical and I had no trouble reading through it. It profiles real traders that Steenbarger works with at a prop trading firm. Lots of wisdom here which I know will save you lots of money, but you will have to go over it and over it and over it because this stuff is much easier said than done.

Worth it

I am a big fan of most books the deal with psychology, because psychology is the biggest determiner of success in performance fields like trading. This book is good because it isn't written from a purely academic point of view. It actually profiles real traders that Steenbarger works with at a prop trading firm. The profile of a trader named Marc Greenspoon makes this book worth the price alone.

Must read!

This book is a must-read. People would find it useful even if they weren't investors.
Unlike other books on trader psychology, he doesn't just say to lose your emotions and be rational. He talks about the psychological progression from novice to expert. He mentions everything you need to know, but be warned that without a mentor that you probably won't become an expert (according to his book).
He gives advice such as spending the time to find your niche, then once you find a niche you need to find a mentor because that accelerates your development, ect. Some people might be frustrated that you can't do it all on your own, so I find it necessary to mention that in the review. I can't find a mentor so I won't fully benefit from the book, but I still find it to be extremely valuable.
There are many case studies in this book, but it doesn't stray too far from the point where you get bored, and the case studies point to how useful this advice is for anybody in any field or hobby. This has to be one of my all-time favorite books.

The following review is from www.amazon.com

Don't just read it. Absorb it.

First, to keep things totally above board, let me state for the record that Brett Steenbarger wrote the forward to my book, The Essentials of Trading. He and I became aquainted through my editorial work with Trade2Win. When my book was near completion, I asked Brett to give it a look knowing that he was involved in trader training and development. The forword followed...
