Striking gold!—Discovering the Ultimate Website for Traders/Investors
Several years ago, after being thoroughly trounced by the stock market as a novice and naïve trader/investor, I was casting around for guidance, insight and support. While sifting through Dick Davis’s acclaimed book, The Dick Davis Dividend (2008), I read highly complimentary remarks about Charles Kirk and his KirkReport.com. I decided to check it out. Impressed by Kirk’s story—he’s been incredibly successful as a full-time, independent trader for over 20 years–as well as his commitment to “teach and inform the little guy investor and trader” like me, I subscribed to his site in August 2010, nearly 3.5 years ago. Thus began, for me, a voyage of both personal and market discovery. Kirk’s site has provided two invaluable benefits.
The first is illustrated by an old saying: “Give a man a fish, and feed him for a day; teach him how to fish, and feed him for a life-time.” The Kirk Report is all about teaching an aspiring trader or investor “how to fish so he can feed himself for a lifetime.” Many of the internet’s proliferating trading newsletters, websites, blogs, and subscription services are about “giving people a fish to feed them for a day.” They often promise lucrative secret trading strategies and hot stock picks with bold claims like this: “Learn how to make $30,000 in 7 days!” However, this approach shackles the aspiring trader/investor to the brains of the self-proclaimed expert and guarantees their perpetual market naivety, immaturity and dependence while enriching the website sponsor. Not so with The Kirk Report! It runs against this self-interested tide by mentoring the aspiring trader to be informed, skilled, self-reliant and mature. Kirk provides sage coaching and instruction on all the critical dimensions of trading and investing—developing strategies that mesh with your personality, effective technical analysis, stock and ETF screening, money management, capital preservation through position sizing and stop losses, gaining self-knowledge and emotional balance, forming realistic expectations, finding the best market information, software and hardware, and model portfolios.
The second invaluable benefit of the Kirk Report is this: its creator, Charles Kirk, teaches by example, not merely by words. His character is inscribed on every dimension of his website. This is an individual who is ruthlessly honest about his own mistakes in the market and modest about his successes. As well, he demonstrates the need for dedication and self-discipline. He begins real-time posts to his Notebook at 6:00 a.m. Monday-Thursday and continues them until his post-market report each evening. Additionally, he shows how to be a passionate, life-long student of the market, ever analyzing its changing character and continuously assessing the approaches of other “market wizards.” The dynamic nature of his accessible, user-friendly website, with its many valuable components—the daily, real-time Notebook that reveals his thinking and responses to the market throughout the day, the pre- and post-market strategy reports that analyze daily market developments, the Prospector screener that hones in on promising stocks and EFTs, the weekend chart shows that provide a broad market analysis and preparation for the coming week, the weekend magazine, and the educational tutorials and links—illustrate the work of a trader in relentless pursuit of excellence.
With the Kirk Report, you really do strike gold! For any aspiring trader or investor who wants to learn to trade independently and successfully (“to learn to fish for a lifetime”), I highly recommend the Kirk Report. You will find that Charles Kirk provides the rich storehouse of resources necessary to learn the skills of trading/investing; moreover, he teaches daily by precept and example. This is a powerful combination, the most powerful that I’ve found.
