Everything was good about it except for one thing.

That being that you could not buy or sell on real time. If you are trying to learn how to trade, that can be dangerous, because you can easily delude yourself. What I mean by that is you can buy a stock for a way way lower price because you know that it is going to go up in 15 minutes. That is NOT real life or real trading. It is good, however, if you can make yourself buy a stock at the price you were going to buy it at even if you know that you were going to buy it at a loss. This product can work if you are honest with yourself. I am sure there are better products out there, but I don"t know of any. I personally think that it is very important to trade with fake money. Most people in general learn by doing.

Good Place to Start!

This website is a great place to start. I believe that the great advantage is the virtual trading that allows us to make trades with no risk at all. Start with USD 10,000 but the only downside is that we can not short sell stocks that are less that USD 3. Still a great site to learn and instead of paper trading we can trade here on real time ( most of the time)

Also they provide information to grow our knowledge at the begin and improve as traders.

New to stock market? Start here!

This is a very basic site for those newbies who are just beginning to look into the stock market. There are some good topics here although the information is not very comprehensive. Again, this is just a starting point for newbies - check out the stock game here if you want to get a feel for the market before you begin trading/investing with real dough.

The perfect beginners website!

This site is full of information that is extremely valuable to someone starting out in trading. I especially like the stock market game they have which allows users to paper trade everything from equities to Forex. When highschool teachers try to teach their tiny bit of knowledge about the stock market, first they should read everything on this site and second they should turn their students over to this site. This would be a great way of tracking students progress in paper trading portfolios for assignments.

Decent but useful website!

Good site to learn the basics from. They have the virtual paper trading but I rather prefer it on a actual trading platform like the TD Ameritrade/ThinkorSwim paper trading. Overall not a bad website.

They also have free Virtual Trading, which allows you to practice buying and selling stocks without using real money.

Basic but good for beginers

Free paper trading site, most of the stocks can be traded in real time which is rare for free sites.

Charts and resources are very basic but good enough for new traders to get their feet wet before risking real money.

The website is a great place for beginner traders who don't have a clue as to how wall streat works. I personally like the free virtual trading. I use it to test new strategies and compete with others. I like this virtual trading more than the one that zacks and invesopedia offered. The site provides some good definitions of finance terms and concepts of investing.

A must for Beginners

"Paper trade with virtual money before you loose any of your hard earned cash" - I don't know how many times I've quoted the above statement to new traders.

Although Howthemarketworks charts and resource tools are basic, the virtual trading they offer is a must for new traders in my opinion.

The monthly trading contest they run is a lot of fun, while helping you find what kind of trader you are. You can even set up your own competition with your own parameters such as: 'only allow stocks under $5'.

You also have the option of making your competition private with a password or leaving it open to all HTMW members.

Totally free, HTMW is the only virtual trading site I've found that doesn't charge for 'real time quotes & trading'

Thank you to the founders for providing this very important 'Leg up' for new traders.
