Good education resource but would not recommend
Lance Spicer can be rude at times and does not give out all of the information he should to his mutual fund investors. He makes fun of those who do not agree with him. My friend lost many !! thousands the first year with his growth fund and we feel he overestimates his returns and gives a false impression of the real gains. His staff seems to not be very

friendly as well and answers questions as if our friend and we are idiots.

Beware of Trident as it may not be all that it claims to be. Overall, we feel they overcharge for their annual newsletter and feel that they do not have much empathy for his investors. They are clearly making money and we feel they do not make sure that all of his investors are served well and protected. My friend rates his services and results poorly and we do the same with our contact with his newsletter and promised high returns and gains.

Trident UnConfidential
"Like many other reviewers on here I have to say...this is a complete and utter scam. The newsletters are extremely inconsistent and the gains he reports are ridiculously overhyped. He is a professional con artists and I honestly doubt any of those supposed 30 mil he made were a product of his awful investment choices. He simply banks on the money from naive subscribers. I have to say that ive never personally tried the newsletter but ive heard so many awful things from so many people. My brother and his wife were extremely disappointed by it as well as my coworker who was subscribed for only a few months."

I completely agree with that statement.

Trident Confidential - Absolute Con!!!
Like all the negative reviews here I want anyone considering forking out money on Trident Confidential newsletter or their fund to make one simple analysis. The Dow Jones from 1 December is up 10.3% and Trident's Fund is up 1.3% as per link:

http://www.amhonline.com.au/trident/ for the same period

Make your investment based on real data not hearsay from their newsletter or their promotional hype. You only make money in a stock if you really understand the industry you are investing in, not from random buying and selling Trident Confidential does unless you are a full time professional trader. You will waste your time, learn little and be seriously disappointed in your results.

They claim an average of 90% return per annum over the last 5 years or more but the managing director Lance Spicer is fudging the numbers as per his experience as an accountant. He knows how to manipulate the system legally. Many of his self published books write about this.

If you want to beat the system read his books but don't let him play you or you will let his system manipulate you.

Good luck, invest wise and all the best,

Anthony Rudd

One of the best in business, must strictly follow guidelines
First, I have been investing for a very long time, I do very well and have since the 80's, rule number 1 in investing, nobody cares as much about your money as you do. The only way to success is be patient and knowledgeable, this requires work and time, if you are not willing to do the work and spend the time, keep your money in a fruit jar burried in the yard, you will be better off.

Spicers advice is very accurate most of the time, he is very disciplined and you must follow it to the letter if you are not an experienced investor or you will mess up. It is well worth the price and it is very stright forward. I think he is one of the best in the business on his stock picks. Keep your stops in place and you may want to use the 15% stoploss limit instead of 25%, but that could cost you a bit on your returns if not carefull, always keep some money in cash to buy select stocks at all times,

I've read all these reviews, some I find amusing because they are just completely inaccurate about his newsletter, must not have followed his rule of stoploss. I suggest that you spend at least $3000 per stock, it just isn't worth it to have 10 stocks in at $1000 each. You should start with newley recommeded stocks each month and NOT try to catch up by buying a bunch of stock on the list, build your portfolio a little at at time and follow the rules and you will do well.

I am a subscriber and have been for a long time, I use Spicers newsletter to Supliment my own research, I do not carry all of his stocks nor should you unless you have $100,000 to invest, start a little at a time and invest in things that you actually KNOW something about, if you do not understand the company and what they do, don't buy it. Use common sense, buy stocks that you actually use their products or use item that they are suppliers for, smartphones for example, companies make chips for smart phones, get the picture?

A Complete Scam!!!
If I could give minus starts I wouldd! If you want proof that Trident Condifential and Lance Spicer are a complete scam check out this 2 months results of his new management fund at: http://www.amhonline.com.au/trident/

The Dow JOnes has made 6.7% in two months and he has made only 2.3% in the same period from 1 December 2010to 31 January 2011. I would consider this a disaster as wait when the market is perfoming badly how he will perform. 90% average returns. What a joke! He can't and will never match this.

You have been warned and now there is hard core proof so no more of Trident Staff can deceive the public by writing in these forums of how great he is and saying he is one of his subscribers.

I think ASIC should investigate his company for misleading investors. I am sure he is based offshore so noone can touch him. Remember he worked for Christopher Skase once. I guess the apprentice is now the master con artist. A current affair would love this one!

Fundamental Analysis Newsletter That Works!
Excellent newsletter! His U.S. and Aussie stock picks are by and large, great. He has had problems with some members not following his trading rules and jumping in (stupidly) and paying too much for his stocks, mainly the Aussie ones, which I don't trade anyways. This seems to have stopped now that he no longer recommends tiny stocks that are subject to this kind of behavior.

I have made really great returns by using his buying strategy and placing my trades exactly where he tells us to each week. His research is done in accountant fashion, because he is one, which means we're talking pure fundamentals here - bottom up stock analysis with a top down thematic investing approach - his results are pure genius. He always seems to be 3 months ahead of the game.

He protects all his positions with stop losses and lets his winners run until they reach his valuation.

All in all an excellent service and I have now discontinued subscribing to other newsletters in favor of Trident. I will say to newbies, sign up by all means - I totally recommend you do, but if you want his returns, then you must follow his trading rules. Some people ignore the rules and just buy the stock at any price which means you miss out on some of the returns. Highly Recommended!

Good Source for Stocks - Even better way to invest!
Been a subscriber for nearly a year and I have to say it's the first time I've been impressed by a stock picker. Trident's stock picks are spot on.

What I can say is that there is more to the newsletter than just master stockpicking.

To get Lance Spicer's returns you have to follow 2 strategies.

1. He always sets his buy prices a few percent below where the market is and does so in 2 part allocations. One lower than the other.

2. He employs a strict stop loss strategy placed at a certain perecentage below the recent high.

These two trading strategies work superbly well and have proven to me that this is a newsletter worth listening to.

As I have followed these strategies from day one, my returns have been almost exactly the same as the newsletter's although I don't weigh my stocks evenly like they do.

If you find you don't get his returns - its probably because you haven't followed his rules. I know another subscriber, who complains that she doesn't get his returns, but then she constantly ignores the buying rules and doesn't set her trades where he actually tells you to. Trident are always telling subscribers to be patient, but the less experienced ignore his advice and then complain later. Me? I stick by the rules and I get the returns - Totally impressed!!

Solid Profitable Advice - Love the newsletter!
I have been with Trident for a number of years, just like most of the posts here and have found his advice to be excellent and a calming voice through all the chaos that has ensued over the last few years. His stock picks have always been good and soundly based. He is an accountant, and from other sources he was a very good one. He doesn't write like one. He writes like he's having a conversation with you and you can tell he puts his heart and soul into what he does.

I note that there are some appraisals that are a little damning which I find very surprising and wonder why someone who dislikes his style of information would stick with him for literally years? My results were ok, until I really started following his rules, then they did end up being close to his own, actually I have beaten his results on occasion. There is no way you can't. The biggest problem I had was I was too impatient and I suspect if truth be known, so were the dissenters.

Now that I follow his rules (pertty easy to understand, sometimes emotion got in my way in the early days) and act with patience as he always says, I'm able to duplicate his results. He did recommend some small cap Australian stocks that proved too samll for the letter and he seems to have now decided to stick with larger stocks. The problem seemed to be too many people were acting on his advice and as his readership is small by comparison, I would say that indicates quite a bit of loyalty amongst readers.

He explains every week how he gets his quite high results and you know, I checked his numbers for a few weeks and they are spot on, so I can vouch for his returns calculations -they are spot on. He's an accountant after all.

But to sum up, I think he's a very good at what he does and the newsletter is the best I have subscribed to, and I've tried them all. He has his detractors, but I do wonder what motivates them, jealousy or tall poppy syndrome? I hope he continues for years and I'll remain subscribed as long as he decides to keep going. If you read this Lance - "good on you mate"!

Do you own research, please!!!
I have read the reviews here and felt that I wanted to put some perspective on Trident Confidential. From my 5 or so years subscribing to his newsletter I have received on average 20% return which I am happy with. The reality of this newsletter is that the author Lance is quite a marketer and makes many misleading assumptions. These are the following conclusions I have arrived at.

1. He boosts his returns 90+ on average to get subscribers that are unfamiliar with the market. I you want to know the reality of it read “The Market Wizard” books by Jack Schwarzer. These are the top investors in the stock markets and they average at best 30% returns per annum. Even the richest man in the world Warren Buffett averages 25% per annum. You make your own conclusions…

2. He is inconsistent with his trades. He recommends price buys once a week then often seems to purchase them well below his recommendations. This can leave the subscriber frustrated and disappointed. He also trades in some very small stocks that easily get stopped out. He doesn’t recommend charting yet any tool should help to be more aware of your trading. And the charts will show how risky a trade is by showing how quickly some of his stock trades can fall in one day. I think he is using the old Rene Rivkin strategy. Recommend an illiquid stock to a large number of people then wait for them to get stopped out and pick it up cheaply…

3. If he is gaining 90%+ returns a year why doesn’t he set up a fund to prove this? Most other traders do this worldwide. I think I know why…He has on average about 2,000 subscribers and at $400 per year per subscriber he is making about $800,000 a year. Not bad for a working class guy growing up in Western Sydney with no stockbroking or finance industry experience.

4. He makes bold claims of high returns but has no authoritive figure to back up these claims. Why hasn’t he received the worldwide newsletter appraiser “Huntleys” from Morningstar rate his newsletter if indeed he is making 90%+ returns. It is obvious. Because he isn’t. The best newsletter in the world gets at best 30% returns per annum.

5. And finally the risk. Firstly when the market is highly volatile he advises getting up between 11.15pm and 12.15am every day and buying hedge ETF’s when the market goes down. I don’t know about you but does not suit my lifestyle at all. And he says his newsletters are safe. The stocks he trades are extremely volatile. If you are not careful, knowledgable or experienced in stocks you can lose most if not all of your money in one week of volatility. I have spoken to other subscribers who have had this bitter experience. You have to watch the market daily. You certainly won’t become a millionaire in 5 years or less starting out with $50,000 as you would be mad to risk large sums of money on his recommendations as it will wipe out your life savings. Do you own research. You can’t leave your life savings in the hands of Lance “the speculator”. Use him as one of many other research materials and you should do well.

All the very best, Allie
